Home Decor Project For The Scrapbook Paper Fanatic-DIY
I’m not sure why it took me so long to discover scrapbooking paper, but I noticed it for the first time about 10 years ago. I wasn’t living under a rock, I just hadn’t thought of myself as crafty and I wasn’t much of a card person, so it just wasn’t on my radar. BUT, then I came across a collection of pretty papers. Oh boy, I was a goner! The pretty designs and colours won me over.
My tendency to be practical and not collect a lot of “stuff” had me hesitating to start collecting any crafty items…even if it was really pretty. So once I was hooked on scrapbooking paper, I just needed to find a use for it;)
I did end up finding uses for it and created cheap and beautiful DIY décor for my home and some great homemade gifts.
Recently I made some wall art that I was really happy with the results of and it didn’t take long at all. The hardest part was deciding on which of the beautiful papers to use.
For this project you will need:
6-9 pieces of MDF cut to 7”x 5” (or whatever size you would like)
6-9 Pieces of coordinating scrapbook paper
2 Paint rollers or brushes (one for Mod Podge and one for apint)
Paint colour of choice
Here are the steps:
Step 1-Trace the shape and cut out paper to MDF size
Step 2-Paint MDF (2 coats, wait 15 in between coats and don’t forget the sides)
Step 3-Put a coat of Mod Podge on the painted MDF
Step 4-Place paper on top and smooth out (let it sit for 15 minutes)
Step 5-Put a thin coat of Mod Podge over the paper and to the edge to seal
Let it dry and you’re done!
Once its dry you can add small hooks to the back or use double sided foam mounting tape made by Scotch (as in Scotch tape).
Seriously the sky is the limit…all you need is a surface to cover, favourite piece of scrapbook paper and Mod Podge or glue gun and you’re good to go!
These are some of my favourites for my home and to give as gifts:
