Guard Your Heart And Slay The Giant

Slaying the giant.jpg

Above everything else, guard your heart for it is the source of life’s consequences. Proverbs 4:23

Guard your heart? Take every thought captive? Have you ever stopped to ask what do these even mean?

What are your thoughts towards yourself, are they loving and full of life?

The reason I am asking you so many questions is because I spent so much of my life beating myself up…not outwardly, but in my thought life.

Every mistake…whether it was tripping in public or when I was trying to speak to someone and I didn’t say things the way I had envisioned saying them.

I would mull those mistakes over and over again in my head, beating myself up and wondering what other people thought.

The truth is, they probably didn’t remember or care anyways. Everyone messes up in some way, at some point. I am not alone in this human condition.

There are so many sources ( magazines, Pinterest, FB, etc.) telling us we aren’t measuring up…that we are failing, for whatever reason, but it’s all a big LIE!!!

The enemy is the father of lies. If he can convince us, we are small and insignificant, that we are worthless, then he wins. He throws darts at our hearts and minds all the time, but are we aware of it? Do we believe it and let it sink in, or do we stop it in it’s tracks and say “Hey!! Wait a minute!! That’s not what God says about me!!”

God’s says:

I am a child of God-Galatians 3:26

I am fearfully and wonderfully made-Psalm 139:14

And, list goes on as to what God says about us…

Our thought life affects our heart more then we realize, which in turn affects how we live our life.

If we could grasp how, God, sees us, how good and wonderfully made we are; and understand how mighty He is, we would be unstoppable to change things for His Kingdom, things we can only imagine.

I truly believe His whole purpose for our life is, to love Him and walk in His ways. That includes living and walking with the understanding that what He says about us and how He sees us, is the truth.

King David. What a guy! Yes, he messed up royally…no pun intended, many times in his life, but he was still considered a man after God’s heart.

The things David did, such a slaying a giant, rescuing lambs from bears and lions, he did as a youth!!! That’s not just your average youth. He knew who God was and he knew who he was, according to what, God, said about him. Not what Goliath or even the kings army was saying about him.

Could you imagine? Having the faith and understanding of your position in God’s Kingdom? Knowing you could slay the giant. That if, God, is for you, then who can be against you?

So often our thoughts don’t line up with that. We are at war in our hearts and minds, believing what the enemy is saying about us, instead of what, God, says about us. Why?

Do we realize that when we don’t agree with the Word of God we are actually calling God a liar?

Yikes!

Think about this, if your child came home from school complaining about a friend who was telling them they were fat or dumb, not good enough or calling them names, would you encourage them to be around that friend?

Probably not. So why do we talk to ourselves that way? We can be our own worst enemy or our own best friend.

When I finally realized how much the enemy was bombarding my thought life and my thoughts about myself, it was game on!

I am so tired of him wreaking havoc in my life and feeling like I don’t measure up!! I need to fight back and the best way to do that is with the Word of God. Find scripture that tells you what God says about you and your life. Write them out and put them up around your house. The bathroom mirror is a good place because that’s an area, I know, as women we pick ourselves apart…a lot.

Memorize these verses and whenever a thought comes your way, say “no way, not today!”. God’s word says…and replace it with the truth.

It’s worth the fight! It’s time to renew our minds and our thought life and take every thought captive and start to declare the truth about ourselves, others and our situations!

This is You…

You are a child of God-Galatians 3:26

You are a new creation-1 Corinthians 5:17

You are God’s craftsmanship-Ephesians 2:10

You are forgiven-1 John 1:9

You are greatly loved-Romans 5:8

You are his special treasure-Deuteronomy 7:6

Nowhere does it say, we are these things only when we measure up. This is what God says about us and it’s true, always, whether we believe it or not.

When we believe the truth, it brings life!!

When we guard our heart/mind when it comes to what we believe, about ourselves, it affects all that we do and all that we are.

Are you ready to guard your thoughts towards yourself and defeat the enemies lies with the Word of God?

Get out there and slay that giant!!
