2018 Spring Cleaning Challenge Week 5 Day 3 and 4

12.png

As I mentioned before, this final week, week 5 is a bunch of cleaning odds and ends.

I have combined the tasks for Day 3 & 4 because they can both be done fairly quickly.

Do them on individual days or together; it's up to you.

Day 3-Mirrors.

We’ve dusted all wall décor and furniture, but if you haven’t cleaned your mirrors yet, now is the time.

You Will Need:

  • Favourite window cloth
  • Favourite window spray

Get Started:

  • With your spray bottle, spray the glass a few times, top to bottom.
  • Using your window cloth, wipe right to left in an S pattern, from top to bottom.

Continue until you have completed all your mirrors.

Spring Cleaning-Washing Throw Pillows

Day 4-Throw Pillows and Throw Blankets

Today is fairly simple…depending on how many decorative pillows and throw blankets you have ;)

  • Remove all cushion covers, throw pillow covers and throw blankets. If your couches have slipcovers, remove these also.
  • Throw items into the washing machine and washing, making sure to follow washing instructions.
  • Dry
  • Put covers back on cushions

You only have one day of the Spring Cleaning Challenge left!!

2018 Spring Cleaning Challenge Week 5 Day 2

2018 Spring Cleaning Challenge Week 5 Day 2

spring cleaning garbage cans

This job can be gross, especially if we don’t do it regularly, but once it's clean, the garbage can won't seem quite as icky.

You Will Need:

  • Rubber gloves (optional)
  • Scrub brush or scrubby sponge
  • Old rag
  • Dish soap
  • Paper towel
  • Hose (weather permitting)

Get Started:

  • Remove the bag from the garbage.
  • Remove any crumbs and wipe up any liquid with a paper towel.
  • With an old rag or scrub brush, use hot soapy water and scrub the exterior and interior of the container. Rinse (with hose if outside) and repeat.
  • After the final rinse, wipe it dry with paper towel or allow it to air dry outside with the lid open.
  • Replace bag.

Do this for all of your garbages until complete.

Done!

2018 Spring Cleaning Challenge-Week 5 Day 1

2018 Spring Cleaning Challenge Week 5 Day 1

This is the final week of the Spring Cleaning Challenge! Yay!

How is your home looking so far? Are you happy with the results?

Spring Cleaning Washing Carpets

Today is all about cleaning any carpets or rugs throughout your house. If you don't have any, then you can use this day to catch up, work ahead or relax!

You Will Need:

  • Carpet cleaner
  • Washing machine

Get Started:

  • If your mats or rugs are small enough and machine washable, throw them in the washer and get them going.
  • For carpets and larger rugs, rent a carpet shampooer (or hire a professional) and wash them.

That is all for today!

2018 Spring Cleaning Challenge Week 4 Day 4

spring cleaning the bathroom

I apologize in advance for today's task.

Today is cleaning bathrooms day. I feel like I'm cheating a bit on this one, as we only have one bathroom. For those of you who have more than one; I'm sorry.

This is your final day for this week. Cleaning the bathroom from top to bottom can take a while, and if you have more than one, it will take that much longer. If you have multiple bathrooms and are low on time, give yourself a few days to complete these tasks.

At this point, if you have been following the schedule, some areas of your bathroom have already been done. Such as dusting, walls, baseboards and floors. All that’s left is the tub/shower, toilet, vanity and sink/counter.

You Will Need:

  • Multi-purpose cleaner
  • Scrub brush
  • Microfibre cloth x 3
  • Cleaning paste
  • Toilet brush

Get Started:

Shower:

  • Start by removing your shower curtain and liner and get them washing in the washing machine.
  • Spray down (if you don’t have a sprayer use a bucket to dump water on the sides) the entire shower.
  • Use your multi-purpose cleaning product of choice and spray down the shower and tub.
  • Let it sit and pre-treat for a 5 minutes.

While the shower is pre-treating I start dusting my toilet with toilet paper. I know that sounds weird, but if I don’t dust it first, then when I’m cleaning it, I’m dragging dust all over the place.

  • When the shower is ready, taking a scrub brush, start scrubbing top to bottom and right to left, paying close attention to any grout. If you need a bit more grit to remove any build up, create a baking soda paste with baking soda and vinegar or use the Norwex Cleaning Paste (I love this stuff!).
  • Once the shower is scrubbed with the scrub brush, go over it again from top to bottom with the paste.
  • With a microfiber cloth, wipe down the taps, spout and shower head.
  • Rinse well with hot water (spray or bucket method).

Sink & Counter:

  • Spray your multi-purpose cleaner around the sink and counter and sprinkle a little baking soda in the sink.
  • Wipe the counter down with a microfiber cloth, rinse and wipe again to remove any cleaner residue.
  • Scrub the sink with the baking soda and microfibre cloth and rinse with hot water.

Vanity:

  • With a damp microfibre cloth, wipe down your vanity; the front, sides, top to bottom, doors and nobs/handles.
  • Wipe out your cupboards and drawers with a damp microfiber cloth.
  • If you haven’t already dusted your toilet, do that now. Top, tank, seat, sides, base…the whole thing.
  • Pre-treat inside of toilet with cleaner of choice and let it sit as you wash the rest of the toilet.
  • With a microfiber cloth and spray of choice, wipe down the entire exterior of the toilet, including under and around the seat and lid.
  • Using a toilet scrub brush, scrub the inside of the toilet. If you have hard water stains or hard water build up, you will need a deeper treatment to remove it. I have heard good things about pumice stone for toilets.

Toilet:

Week 4 started lightly and ended with the big job, but now it’s done! Yay!

Next week is our final week and I’m happy to say it’s going to be a lighter odds and ends week, finishing up the last few tasks or catching up.

You have just about completed your missions for this week! Great job!

2018 Spring Cleaning Challenge Week 4 Day 3

Spring Cleaning Bedding and Mattresses

2018 Spring Cleaning Challenge Week 4 Day 3

Today the focus is on beds and bedding. I promise it will be easier on your knees and back then yesterday was.

You Will Need:

  • Mattress cleaner of your choice
  • Vacuum

Get Started:

  • Start by completely stripping all beds.
  • Remove duvet and pillows from covers.
  • Wash ALL bedding, pillows, duvets, blankets, mattress pad/covers, comforters, etc. Make sure to follow washing instructions.
  • With all bedding removed, clean your mattresses. I prefer to use the Norwex Mattress Cleaner, but you can also use this method here.
  • Once the mattress is clean/dry and the bedding is clean, remake the beds.

I don't know about you, but I love crawling into a freshly washed bed and bedding!

The last few days have been fairly light, but tomorrow is a bigger task day. Tomorrow we will be tackling the bathrooms.

Good times ;)!
